a delayed A/V study on good tunes, podcasts, and video content
Good evening and happy… Saturday?!
Correct, you are receiving The Saturday Study, on a Saturday.
Why?
because this is last week’s NL
and 3 separate friends have told me I have been ‘too hard on myself’
After ignoring the first two, and continuing to check the boxes with early morning, rough hotel-gym workouts (following ~17 snoozes of my alarm); and deliriously attempting to read and complete classes at 1:30am after some very full days so that I don’t ‘lose my streak,’ … it’s, uhh, taken its toll.
Last week I was CO for the National Forest Landowners Association (FLA) conference with team Funga.
We spoke on a panel, continued to build relationships with landowners, and announced our partnership with North America’s largest seedling provider.
It went really well.
I also got to hang out with Joey over the weekend — we hiked in the flat irons, hit the local farmers market, and made delicious meals over great conversations.
With an average bedtime ~2am each night, the bags under my eyes scream, “success!” Though, my body silently disagrees.
Just before midnight last Sunday, when I sat down to write this newsletter. I stared at my blank google doc.
No thoughts.
Zilch.
After some more staring, I texted a friend, explained my situation, and got “confirmation/permission” to release it a week later.
I listened. And here we are.
(why i felt the need to get “permission” and explain myself to a friend?
To be unpacked another time…)
Today, we have a great audio/visual study for you.
Let’s dive in.
songs i’ve been digging
Been feeling overwhelmed the past few weeks and music has been getting me through. Here are some oldies, newies, and a local/friend goodie I’ve been jamming to.
oldies
I had a very big EDEN phase in my life. During my recent travel, I got back in.
Oldie eden song:
newie eden song:
newies
new Vundabar single hitsssss — just bought a ticket to see them this fall!
This Is Life by Winnetka Bowling League, Medium Build, and Dawes
weird but good lyrics…
She’s Leaving You by MJ Lenderman
catchy, classic MJ
this just got released, but has been on REPEAT today and yesterday!
goodie
My friend Nevin and I jammed a few times together in college. I have fond memories of butchering Peach Pit riffs and Strokes covers. He started a band in NY and (finally!) released music. It vibes, give it a listen :)
As always:
all of my recs can be found in this playlist.
got music you wanna share? Add your recs HERE!
podcast i learned from
Yup, another TF podcast. If you are interested in writing or business, Seth is the GOAT. If you are interested in relationships, communication, and ‘safe-attachment’ theories, Dr. Sue Johnson is the GOAT. I learned a lot from these two conversations.
For an appetizer on ‘hold me tight’ conversations — here is a 10-minute clip. Worth your time, especially if you are in a relationship or feel emotionally isolated.
youtube video i unashamedly enjoyed
Yes… clickbaity, productivity-bro type title… But it is good and I enjoyed it. Lots of food for thought here and really made me think about what I want out of the rest of my twenties and how I want to go into my thirties.
If you like journaling prompts and thinking about your future self, check it out!
As always, if you’ve made it this far, thank you.
If you have any questions, comments, or ways I can improve this newsletter, please comment/reply!
Lastly, if you enjoyed or I made you think today—please consider letting me know by leaving a like. (This helps others find this newsletter…and it makes me smile :)
ML + cya again tomorrow,
bootleg tony
(P.S. - for my below the fold club
y’all get something very special today…
First, my friend Cam recently showed me his synth skills over a discord call… he has since released this tiktok video. It is awesome and you should check it out.
Second, a year or so ago, some friends and I started a group called “Sync-Work Sunday.” (R.I.P.)
Juggling time zones, getting booted off my TA Zoom license, and Sunday nights being a hard time to block off… it eventually dissolved.
however! one person stuck with it and completed 1 sketch per week for an entire year!
all of these pieces can be found on his tiktok and on his website. here are a couple of my favs :)
(still one of the best campaigns of all time — iykyk)
I am an avid EDEN and Eden project enjoyer
Not every Eden Project song is for me, but digging Times Like These. Reminds me of a more ballady version of Car Seat Headrest. Appreciate these music recs.
